My mother's family came from the Western NC mountains, mostly Madison County and Buncombe County. With my interest in the Civil War and history, my indepth genealogy of our family, I was looking forward to reading about the effects of the War in the highlands of Western North Carolina. Although I learned some things, it was a very dry book and was pretty boring. I knew a lot of this due to the stories that came down through the family. If you don't know these things, you can learn something but it's not an exciting read, and it should have been.
