The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King
King writes a "Sherlock Holmes" novel in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's style. In 1914, Mary Russell meets Sherlock Holmes in the English countryside at Sussex Downs. He is keeping bees but continued to do his cases and his continual scientific experiments. Mary is a younger female version of himself and he takes her on as his "apprentice" in solving crimes. Mary and Holmes get caught in a web when they take on the case of a kidnapped American Senator's daughter, Jessica Simpson.
It was written well but I have to admit that I lost interest 3/4 through and skipped to the end. I can recommend it because there is little language, no sex, no gratuitous violence and has a good plot with a surprise ending.
