Congrats to NBCC Winner Eula Biss!

I'm in Washington, DC, to attend and participate in a panel (organized by Reggie H.) at the Split This Rock Festival, and will post more of that later, but I wanted to offer my heartiest congratulations to my wonderful, generous, and outstanding university and writing program colleague, Eula Biss, who was just awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award for Criticism, for her 2009 book, Notes from a No Man's Land: American Essays (Graywolf Press)!  A J's Theater monthly pick many months back, Eula's collection essays the topic of race with tremendous insight, grace and brio, and is worth picking up. Soon! Congratulations, Eula!

More soon!

Congratulations to Eula Biss

I've been a bit bogged down of late, but I wanted to post a congratulatory note to my university colleague Eula Biss, whose second, splendid book, Notes from No Man's Land (Graywolf, 2009) was just named a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award. Eula is a tremendous writer, teacher and mentor, and though she's only been at the university for a few years, has been instrumental in getting the undergraduate creative nonfiction track up and blazing. You can read one of the essays, "Relations," here. Congratulations, Eula!'

The rest of this year's National Book Critics Circle Award finalists are here.
