4th of July

The Fourth of July is this weekend! In my husband's family, we really celebrate the 4th of July. We go to my sister-in-law's home because they have a pool. Her husband grills hot dogs and hamburgers. My husband usually makes hash the night before (our own little party because it's a late night). Everybody brings salads, desserts, vegetable dishes, etc. We swim, talk, laugh, play games outside and then top it off with fireworks. So our Independence Day party is a big deal.

If you also have a party or family over for a get together, then you can make it as simple or as big as you want. Don't set yourself up for unrealistic expectations. But here are some things I found on the Internet to give you ideas for your party. Take the ideas that you think would be fun to do and incorporate them in your plans. And let others help you. Your kids might be old enough and might love to be included in the decorating or cake decorating. Except what they do and have fun together!

You can make some fun cakes and these are just some of the ideas that I found. If you like decorating cakes, then these should give you some ideas. Or just order one from the grocery store.

You can grill, picnic, cook out, etc. Here are some ideas for the food.

Fruit bowls or just sliced watermelon, cantalope, honey dew melons. Or how about some ambrosia?

BBQ ribs, coleslaw, squash casserole

Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans

Outfit a taco bar with flour tortillas, crushed chips (for taco salad) and taco shells, seasoned hamburger, shredded lettuce, chopped onion, chopped tomato, chopped avocado, shredded cheese, salsa, and sour cream!

Hash sandwiches, vegetable tray, 3 bean salad

Grilled steaks, a baked potato bar, salad

Fish fry with french fries, fried Vidalia onions, steamed fresh asparagus

I hope this gives you some ideas and hope YOU HAVE A HAPPY 4th OF JULY!!!
